“CENTER FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS” (CAS) PROGRAM AGREEMENT 2026-2027

The Williston Northampton School (the “School”) offers a variety of services and programs to help students achieve their academic goals. An overview of these programs is available in the Student and Parent Handbook and the Course of Studies Book. There are two services as part of the Center for Academic Success; Academics Strategies Tutorial and Laboratory for Academic Success. Both of these services have an additional fee that will be charged to a student’s school account and is the responsibility of the student’s family pursuant to the Enrollment Agreement. Any student who wishes to avail themselves of these services is expected to have this signed Program Agreement (the “Agreement”) on file with the Director of Academic Support and the Business Office.

Academic Strategies Tutorial Class

The Academic Strategies Tutorial is a regularly scheduled class that typically meets four times over the span of each two-week class schedule cycle. Students will meet in small groups with an Academic Support faculty member to learn skills and strategies to promote academic success and improve their executive functioning. The Academic Strategies Tutorial is intended to complement a student’s other classes. Lessons may include: planning and scheduling for daily homework, strategies for studying English, math, science, history, and foreign language; effective note-taking skills; reading comprehension strategies; and effectively using the School’s resources and technology. Students enroll on a per trimester basis and must be registered for this program within two weeks of the start of the term.

Laboratory for Academic Success

All boarding students participate in an evening study hall period Sundays through Thursdays and Fridays before Saturday classes. For boarding students who would benefit from a more structured study hall experience, Laboratory for Academic Success offers additional academic support during this evening study hall. This study hall is intended to help students work on academic projects, essays, and nightly homework under the supervision of a faculty member and content area tutors who serve the group most nights.

Tutors

In addition to the services noted as part of CAS, any student who seeks subject-area academic support may request a tutor. These tutors are selected by the School and can work with students on campus before or after school or during a student’s free periods. Tutoring sessions are scheduled by contacting the Director of Academic Support and are billed additionally and separately from the AST course. Tutoring will be charged to the student’s FACTS incidental account on an as-occurrence basis at the rate of $80 / session (plus a $5 per session FICA fee).

Refunds

If the class or services are discontinued within the first two weeks of the trimester, a refund will be issued. If the class or services are discontinued after that time period, the funds for that trimester are non-refundable.

Academic Strategies Tutorial Class and Laboratory for Academic Success fees will be charged to the student’s FACTS incidental account at the beginning of each trimester. By checking here, I acknowledge that I am financially responsible for all academic support program(s) in which the Student participates.

AST will appear on student course schedules in LATE AUGUST whereas LAS (upper school boarders only) will not appear on student course schedules since it is an evening program.
